CONSUME AND DIE
products that are not user-friendly on gürteltiertapes or on tape/vinyllabels of people who received lot of money in order that they will put it out..... |
+ + + + + + + manic-festo for the rostock battle tape released on stillstandtapes (neubrandenburg): It is always really hard to describe the motivation and the background of completely fucked-up society, mainly because it is always a changing and maybe improving concept, but i think that i started this ego-project with the intention to combine radical (socio)political ideas (okay, maybe i shoud out me as anarcho-nihilist) with extreme improvised music. I chose this free-form of music exactly because it fits perfectly to anarchistic utopias and experiments. But i must also admit that i have lot of fun to explore the vast field of trashy sounds and the ocean of experimental music too. There is no real limitation and no borders. I try to chose carefully with whom i would like to collaborate be it musically be it the other aspects like distribution, label (prefer to put it out myself...) and gig-organizers, but i try to be a bit open-minded as well, but of course i have to do limitations here. Most of my collaborateurs are friends with similar ideas and intentions and so the c.f.s.-family is growing slowly but steadily. Most of them have done lot of stuff in the d.i.y. vein and have done more than just putting out an average consumer-product. But of course also the aspect of fun and humor should not be forgotten, i mean the status quo of the world we live in is still extremely horrible (not really for us white male western europeans) for surely two thirds or more of the world-population. But i also have to admit that through the years i just became extremely desillusioned and almost cynical, i would sum it up with nihilism but not resignation. Daily resistance and refusing to be part of the problem (but yes, i am not the solution as well of course...). Completely FucKed-Up society feat. 23/3/01: Everything started like it always starts. pretty hectic travel up to augsburg with no clear ideas what to play in this lovely town of alco-punx. i was totally confused and nearly collapsing since i had 2 weeks of total hell and paranoia left behind in swizzerhell, but bernd took really good care of myself, picked me up at the station with his nice umbrella and after smoking half packet of cigarets he came back from his secret shopping in the burgerKing. we met gerald grenzlandreiter with his nice bike and there i have already my two personal slaves carrying my equipment without any hint of rebellion. after a quick meal in bernd's welknown dhyana-pressing plant we filled bernds little car with 10.000 of cases of beer, necessary if the local punx want to have a bit inspiration, oh well. the provino-club looked like a very nice bar where you get served beer in buckets. i liked the venue, but was still a bit insecure. i met quite a bit of people, but the one i want to mention is just björn of noise-berserker-fame (scrotum rec. and this kind of shit....). Something really strange was happening, the room was full of people! and then i knew the reason, kitty empire (ex-stagnations end) initiated their poppish contribution to guitar-music. partly i liked their emoish rock, but sometimes it left me with no real surprise, pretty predictable. well, after that it was my turn and after a quick setting up my gear i started with my heavy industrial attack. with the 2 song i already reached my peak especially when i received help from a crazy guy in the public and it totally went grindy. but i left my public with my uninspired and chaotic psychedelic approach of contemporary chamber-ambient. after that bernd and mr. zong thrashed down their soft-distortion-pop. i liked it, but i was already drunk. all in all a really cool evening with lot of drunk people who talked to me and i was already extremely confused again. i left a tornado in switzerhell and stepped into a hurricane....after the gig there was no thinking about going to bed, we had to go to a discotheque type of thing, that played all the range from dub to salsa and rumba and latino and other trash. mr. zong prooved that he is indeed a really dirty dancer!! oh well, once again a night of total booze-consuming and of course we got soaked-wet during our long way back to zong's hermitage.
24/3/01: still hung-overed and confused in augsburg, planned to go to leipzig, but there was no thinking about it i would have get lost somewhere in between. so we went to an exhibition by the guy who set the gig up in the provino-club, his name is pauer and he surely likes to do psychedelic collages and paintings. nice evening in a gallery eating bread and olives all the time and drinking large quantities of bavarian brew. late in the night we stopped at bernd's and found him doing lot of slave-work for his label and watching a spanish horror-movie (i forgot the name of the director...) and well, i missed the important parts of the movie, since i kept falling into coma all the time.
25/3/01: with just a day of delay i got to leipzig and there i met jan and thomas who were sitting in franziska's appartement and it was there i met some familiar faces like the face of franziska and floh, and oh well, still was a bit confused and deprived of sleep, so my brain is not really working really fast. oh well, i was exhausted already!! but augsburg was a really big task. leipzig was silent as hell, and then it also got a bit colder, it even snowed in the end! well, it was sunday and everything got extremely delayed and everybody was already exhausted before it really started! gunnar missed his flight directly from the MS stubnitz and so he met us in the Zoro where we were supposed to play that night. i guess jan and thomas started with their stones and contact-mic-abstract noise, followed by me or maybe gunnar, i don't know. not much audience, but that was okay, it was really late and then it was sunday.
26/3/01: monday without much special events except from a gig by doppler and another band from france that played really freaked out french fries breakHC type of sound with lot of drive and power. first chispas from bremen played their kind of punk-rock with intelligent approach. but i fell asleep a couple of times, i was totally exhausted and confused. but the music was really inspiring, but me i was a lame bastard again sitting in the dark corner having a nap, oh well, that is punk-rock!! thank goddessa franziska i got waked up a couple of times!!
27/3/01: normally rockstars have limousine and drivers, that is the reason why aleXdee drove us to chemnitz where we were supposed to play in rene's livingroom, what we did after setting up our sound-installations (well kind of..). personally i had lot of troubles of playing my preferred harsh style at the moment, it just did not seem to fit in rene's living.room, so i opted for a more ambient soundscape-style and no wonder everybody fell asleep. we received snacks and a vegan pizza and i think we forgot to record the event.
28/3/01: halle is normally a really grey and depressing town if you ask me, but i immediately liked the great steinstrasse where we met and received food and beers and listened to music and basically chilled out, right before we went to the gigplace in the basement of the wellknown reilstrasse. a very nice room and it got later and later, time has been slowed down, they were burning wood in the stove, i got drunk and there was no hurry. excellent atmosphere if you ask me, pretty relaxing, so most of the stuff we played was relaxed too, except from the occasional feedbacks and technical errors, hehe. rooms with lot of wood and not much light are great. don't know if the people really enjoyed what we did, but it is hard to tell anyways....
29/3/01: travelling up to rostock, you know it is not terribly interesting telling stories about a train-travel up to rostock... so i'd better stop here. i am not sure but out of boredom gunnar began to ring the bell of a foreign bike every 10 or 15 mins. or maybe he did it in another boring travel, but i think it was the boring travel up to rostock. kutter was in the rehearsal-room damaging his ears and we ended up in jettes new apartement with her nice dog and two cats. after a beer and a dose of t.v.reality we went to bed.
30/3/01: had a nice chat with the american band that was the main act in the backstage-area after fighting with their security-gorilla, hehe. oh well, everybody wants to hear nice melodic HC and there freie hand starts with really unpleasant frequencies, i like it but some blokes even start to shout that they cease with their performance....so a successfull evening for freie hand! the two following bands were not really thrilling to say the least. okay music, but a bit to okay if you ask me. me at the end was playing for myself, that was really okay.
31/3/01: were supposed to drive down to berlin in andy's car, but a bit before neubrandenburg it seemed obvious that andy's car was prducing just black fumes and the speed was not so overwhelming, so we decided that we would continue the trip with the reichsbahn, fortunately we had still lot of time left. when we arrived at the eimer in berlin not so many people were already there and the doors were still closed. but after a falafel-eating-procedure (never again fast-food!) the party seemed to start slowly. and it went berserk. down the dance-floor, second floor was dj-ing with projection interrupted by our aural defragmentation and yes, all in all, this was it! although a bit more interest from the audience would have been okay, but most of them were just not used to such music. maybe all of us did a quite good set. and then the party went on and on until 8 in the morning.
1/4/01: a guy in sassnitz was supposed to set up a gig for us, but he did not.
2/4/01: an excellent 3-hour session in the montagscafe in rostock filmed by kai from ms stubnitz and co. and hosted by bernd and banned on harddisc. gunnar started with his inspired cut-up-ambientnoise, i joined in with my uninspired fucked-up noise and kutter added his dub-trancabeats. quite a lot of people at the beginning but they fled to the dj at the entrance.
4/4/01: again berlin, but just thomas was playing with his tbc-project and hell, it is even way more better than freie hand! and also the others, really good mixture and intense set: the nautilus deconstruction (new god of shit-noise!), slackism (similar to the ambient of tbc), praying for oblivion&lacy (jet-lag noise), the kill-team a.k.a. johan berghaus(?) (cool and sohisticated electronic new school) and tochnit.aleph on turntables! great stuff to head-bang to. poor hannes he had to stand in front of the kadterschmiede and check out the situation. the house is a squatted house always under threat of eviction and so you have to be carefull. he missed a really good gig!
5/4/01: again zoro in leipzig but due to serious stomache-ache and other strange coincidences the cfs.unit did not have the courage to play, so there was just this extremely funny the nautilus deconstruction performance (a REAL GENIUS!), floh did his soundcollages, manipulations with his tools and andrew and lacy did their threatening noise too. i was in a really bad condition with lack of motivation and diarrhoe (or something like that, maybe i have drunk too much tomato-juice the day before?!!)
6/4/01: oh well, went not to bed and listened to strange music in franziskas kitchen and then i jumped on the train to hamburg at 6 in the morning so that i can meet up with thomas in hamburg and he revealed that he would come up to alborg a bit later (the next day) he still had to organise stuff for his sound-installation with the welknown aid of mister istari lasterfahrer. oh well, i went to kiel and met jan and we began our trip up to north of denmark and after more than 15 hours of travel for me we reached alborg and there was a death-metal gig on in the 1000fryd and we were too scared to enter the club. we could sleep in the office where they discuss what rockstars they want to put on next.
7/4/01: thomas got almost lost and caught wrong trains so he did not manage to arrive right in time, so poor jan had to perform all alone after the projection of some harsh-noise video footage by cock e.s.p. and maybe some other video clips. i did a short history lesson teaching the audience the difference between shit noise, harsh noise, industrial and experimental cut-up avantguard whatever. lot of drinking was going at the bar and obviously people in denmark like to party hard!
8/4/01: again a day-off, jan and thomas went home, but for me the way down to shitty swizzerlanth was too long so i had the opportunity to stay at lars place eat vegan pizza and watch a film that i completely missed most of the parts because i was falling asleep all the time... punkrock again...
9/4/01: still a day-off and i decided to visit the squat in copehagen, the famous ungdomhuset, a good idea indeed but i was so tired from the travelling that i did not see much of copenhagen really and the next day i had to leave for kiel early....
10/4/01: the location tanzdiele is pretty wellknown for putting on experimental music every now and then. strange enough there was a guy there from the local paper and even a photographer who took lot of pictures of my equipment and my disguise. but nobody speak to me. thomas was still in hamburg and so this was really a no performance, good psychedelic abstract electronica but somehow jan did not really come into the right gear. oh well, my performance was a disaster too, but i did not really care, the audience was a bit reserved too and after two pieces i asked if they want to hear more and there was not much reaction and so i stopped - an easy job, but i lost my key-ring somewhere....
11/4/01: day-off again, passed it in the fundbüro where we were supposed to play next evening with ilse lau. tested with tenthousand of other people the sound-installation thomas and felix did. funny shit with turntables and laser-beams and it was intersting to drink and watch the people doing their proper sound switching the contacts on and off while walking and interrupting the beams. this sound-experiment was recorded and maybe will be available as a precious collector item, hehe!!! i am pretty sure that we also saw oi polloi at the flora, but it was a really big joke! maybe they were serious about it....
12/4/01: so this was the last gig. thomas did his shit
and i did my shit and ilse lau did their shit. this was the end and it
was a good end, although i did not go to sleep at all, and started my cruel
travel back to swizzerlanth in 8 in the morning..... blah blah blah
dobra minus/ nautilus deconstruction / cfs (three weeks of sleep
with eyes wide open)
many thanx to everybody making this happening, thank you so much!!!
well, it is freezing outside and also here it is damn freezing cold or fresh in the computerroom of damn university and so it is hard to concentrate... also it is hard to remember what happened in the last three weeks, because far too many inpressions, frustrations, traumatic experiences and sparkles of artistic freedom are spinning in my brain (if there is still some grey material left....) but let's continue, so it is done!
19th august - cottbus: got on the train early in the morning
the day before and i did not sleep at all and in the trains it was not
possible to really sleep and hell expecting way too much stress i was extremely
surprised that i managed to reach frankfurt/m one hour before i planned
to. but i got lost a bit in the airport's underground, had to walk endless
halls and had to fight with signs leading to nowhere, had to take a lift
down again and there i was standing in front of a ticketmachine with no
idea what ticket to buy to go to the mainstation of frankfurt, but i asked
around and then i also found a train going to frankfurt hauptbahnhof and
so i arrived there right in time and continued my travel east to leipzig...well,
in some way it was a real odyssee like always and i am pretty sure that
i took the most complicated way as possible to get to leipzig. finally
i was in leipzig and my personal gear-carriers floh and oli waited like
obedient butlers dressed in filthy clothes and there were some guys scoring
for a weekendtrain-ticket and i was so stupid to give away my ticket for
free. i should have charged at least half of the price (that is 20 DeutschMark).
big hello and we drove to franziska who has moved and has now an even more
nice kitchen than before. franziska was sitting in an armchair and chatting
to a friend when we entered their flat. i was nearly collapsing but i managed
to sip my cups of tea and managed to smoke a big quantity of strong cigarets.
afterwards we went to floh's and as oli and me showed up they were already
preparing a delicious meal (reis mit scheiss wohl) and were discussing
further actions for the night. they still needed to do some rehearsal,
but there was also this disco of gescheiterte existenzen, so i had to give
in and go to bed after a big crisis of sleep-deprivation. maybe franziska,
floh and oli managed to do a bit of hectic rehearsal, but the disco was
not really worth the dancing i guess (as far as they told me...) but i
was in a bed high high in the air with always the fear of falling down,
but i slept and i woke up without problems. so now, it is sunday the 19th
and we are supposed to go to cottbus. of course floh still had tons of
things to do and even franziska had some chaos with their old flat and
so after a short battle whether to postpone everything again or just do
10.000 things at once we started for cottbus and found our way to the very
nice coffee/infotheque in that very nice house in cottbus despite of some
stupid roadblocks. so there i met katharina and micha who were already
preparing food (well, it was after 7 p.m. i guess... so maybe not already...).
i found out that they have also dark beer so i was looking forward to a
brilliant future (at least for this night...). like always food was terribly
good and i had problems to stop with devouring even my dish. the gig-situation
was special, pretty intimate and who missed it just missed it. no details
will be revealed! we then decided to go to the baggersee for a nighty bath,
but i was worrying about getting wet so i did not really jump in the cold
and dark material, stood there with my stupid bottle of dark beer and look
at the stars and moons.
after getting up rather early and having to fight for
our breakfast with dirty squatter-punx we decided to go to the baggersee
again just to kill time before the scheduled global action day manifestation
that would take place in the afternoon. oh well, laying at the baggersee
is always a good idea, but the ants were some kind of a plague. the manif
was okay, most of the people were just people like us and there were no
hassles with police, nazi-boneheads or other nice fellows. nice demonstration
with nice pieces of street-theatre showing the truth about genova and g-8.
we decided to go to jena and pay a visit to floh's ex-roomies. that was
a really good idea and a funny evening passed with eating spaghettis, lentils-soup
and listening to the funny anecdotes of zachi (?).
21th - hanau, metzgerstrasse: having not had the real
possibilities and especially guts to check the email, we went directly
to the gigplace and did not follow masterchief roberts' orders to pass
by at the borsigallee where he had parked his van in order to live in and
where the food was waiting. but after a quick phonecall robert said that
he will come around and bring the food, so it was no stress for us, but
more stress for poor robert. big hello also later and then there was delicious
potatoes and salad and soup and after that we initiated the search for
the holy p.a.system. the regular one was in repair as it seemed and poor
robert was already seeing red i think, he planned to sit down in a corner
have a couple of beers and the gig will happen just like it always happens,
but he had to phone around and to worry about a p.a. instead. but in the
end everything was okay, a bit crowd even showing a bit interest and even
paying a bit money! it was a nice place and also a nice mood if you ask
me, but you dont ask me, i know!!! i refuse to write about our anti-musick,
partly becuz it is not really easy to describe what is going on, partly
becuz it also does not make much sense at all describing something that
one cannot really describe.. but micha was doing some stuff with broken
bottles and i knew it that he will cut his feet, what he did. i received
the very cool räuberhöhle-cd and a guy shot a picture of our
car parking in front of his house and gave it to us. strange evening and
then we followed robert and compatriots to the wagenburg in frankfurt where
we could sleep in cara/vans.
22nd - essen, emo: nice weather and nice location at the
borsigallee. eating breakfast with two babies and their parents and a barking
black(?) dog, don't know his color anymore. very peacefull beginning for
our long day and not so long travel up to essen. well, the gig took part
in a basement of an evangelist(?) youth-centre or something. well, very
strange to me also i did not really fall in love with the hardcore-folk
who was gathering there, some of them were even cooler than my fridge.
oh no, i don't want to spread shit. just strange almost everybody found
a cheap excuse after the gig not to stay for our performance, so it was
an intimate circle of mu-sick performers, gig-set-uppers and hopeless cases
again. and it was just great and intense! not really positive musick if
you ask me, but you don't ask me.... it was in essen when i started to
develop my anti-social and eccentric behaviour, poor friends who had to
bear my strange moods..... oh well, after a short ride to the sleeping-place
i had already consumed all my nerves... and was a bit angry already...
oh well, not much, but enough. we discussed very strange things like if
the future/ political system we live in is totally determined or not. there
were of course a couple of different positions and no answers. as nihilist
i had to refuse any determination, but i doubt i managed to fully refuse
it with my determined way of thinking... oh well, we were really tired
and so the discussion went more and more confusing... next day we planned
to go back to frankfurt but we changed the plan soon and decided to go
directly to aarau. after a very nice breakfast in that very nice emo-hc-hippie-collectivism-comune
we had to say good-bye to everybody and especially to simone, we did some
shopppings and then we tried to head to aarau but did not fully succeed....
after karlsruhe i guess problems started with a flat tire on the highway.
shit! it took us a long time until we had checked out possibilities, bought
a tool to change the tire and changing in fact the tire with almost no
light except of the light of passing cars. what an adventure!!!! at some
stages it seemed really that we are pretty fucked and that we never would
get away from this terrible place. but due to the persistence of the others
(i was just standing around and smoking tons of cigarets..... and fighting
my panic) we managed to overcome this difficult situation. we fortunately
then had the possibility to pass the night in franziskas' sisters' nice
villa near freiburg. floh did some more damage to the car while trying
to park the car, but that should not be revealed...eh he! terrible day
if you ask me and so i went straight to bed....
24th - aarau, hoch&tiefton: well, nice sun and breakfast
and just a short ride to aarau, but we had to change all the tires first,
a new set of tires(or tyres???). but it did not really take us a long time,
we were all working like berserks and we would have been a really good
pit-stop-team. finally we reached the venue where we were supposed to play
tonight with some wellknown d'n'b-djs and with a performeress from zurich/winti
blowing up baloons. very nice venue, but not much crowd really showed up.
nevertheless the exclusive djs started their exotic set and were interupted
by our noisy performances. also some videos have been shown to the sparse
crowd and the evening went on and on, unfortunately i received a terrible
headache becuz of to much smoking and so i went to a calmer and dark region
(i went to bed), but i got up 4 in the morning and one dj was still playing
some hectic and loud music. after a rich breakfast with self-made bread
and thousand of other things to eat we decided to go to the river and do
not much apart from laying around until evening. there was a nice gig in
the rheinhafen-area in basel and we decided to go there and after some
unsuccessfull attempts we asked the right person and found the secret gigplace
and missed the first band. the second was playing some heavy-powered grind-trashcore
or something and the next one was some kind of a reggea-dub-band that was
interrupted by the police (the gig was not really terribly legal...). so
we had to find a place to sleep and so i asked a couple of faces who i
know and we ended up following a mountainbike-punk at 10km/h and so had
to quarrel with the border-police who suspected us to be illegal drugdealing
scumbags from third world or something. the house where that bike-punk
lives used to be a squat and there was a nice garden with nice plants and
the german preferred to sleep outside but i think they regretted it in
the end becuz the sun was very hot in the morning. so it was a sunday and
with not many things to do except buying some stuff in denner-satellit.
there was this idea to go to aarau again and have a bath again, but then
we ended up heading to shitty shittown winterthur, where we had one week
off due to pille's total incapibility of booking something decent in zurich.
being home and not wanting to be home sucks really hard. the ballermenschen
were a bit more active with recording/playing music, buying some second-hand
stuff and records than me who was just laying around in a katatonic state
of depression.
31. winterthur, gg31: what a nightmare! but the noisefamily
enjoyed the anti-musick of the germans and mike and michael from region
of wolhusen played their human-despising machine-noise in order to end
the world. again winti sucked hard.
1. luzern, wagenplatz: finally we managed to get to the
wagenplatz, it took us nearly 1 hour to pass through zurich in some kind
of rush-hour. but there was still no stress everything was a bit slowed
down but punctually at 8 o clock we received lentilssoup and spaghetti
with seitan and vegetables. even quite a lot of people popped in and some
of them were even a bit interested in what we were doing. mike and michi
were not really satisfied with their performance and had to run in order
to catch their last train. we others played our stuff and in some way there
was endless time but i was endlessly tired. the wagenplatz exists already
8 months and is always under threat of eviction, but there's also lot of
opposition against the eviction also from neighbours so that it is still
uncertain but not hopeless how it will go on. there's a river nearby and
lot of industrial-area and a highway. a bit desolated area but in some
way with charme. next day was sun again and after the breakfast the ballermenschen
decided to go to luzern for a walk and me i was refusing to go to town,
but there were also some other misunderstandings as usual, so i went to
phone pablo and went to the river, then i waited for the others to come
back, shouted at them and then we slowly drove to biel in order to pay
a short visit to indoor-punk pablo. he showed us his big record-collection,
gave us a bunch of old zines for the library of the trashland-squat in
lausanne and gave us soja-chunks for the soupeeeh. fucking me was still
in a terrible shitty mood and nervous and just an asshole, oh well... i
phoned to eric that we will come to lausanne that night and we drove down
to this nice city. well, eric obviously did not have the time to inform
his friends so that it was a big surprise for titi and marylise to see
our ugly faces and we came right in time for a plate of pasta. trashland
still exists and hopefully will exist for a long time until it falls apart...!!!
as eric and marylise heard that we planned to stay until wednesday they
promptly suggested that we could play with john homes and cabinboy at the
espace. so the second flat tire that floh managed to create while driving
in the garage was forgotten a bit and there was also a gig to look forward
to, apart from the 2 italian gigs that at that time were not cancelled
already... well, don't know what we and me did tuesday really... we went
to the cathedral at monday night and tuesday? ah yes, i was in the espace
in the morning with marylise and we had a funky session.
5th lausanne, espace autogere: before the gig could start
we had still to do lot of work with re-opening the gig-space, but we finally
managed to get everything done for the hot concert-night. a really delicious
meal again with even fruit-salad with tofu was surely a good base to start
from. cabinboy with their stoner-rock had quite a good response but i was
a bit confused about the fact that they were not singing at all. bri told
me then that it is stonerrock and so they don't sing, it's a question of
style not a question that they don't have a singer... okay, learned something
new again. after that john holmes were not really able to keep up the suspence
and there way less people cheering and dancing in front of the stage. finally
when micha and his ballermenschen-support initiated there were astonishingly
still a bunch of people sitting on the floor and watching the bizarre spectaculum.
oh well, that was great performance as usual even a bit with lost of self-control
due to not really seeing where the bottle will land, eh he! cfs was the
usual uninspired shit and poor dobra minus up in the dj-booth had to play
in front of a nearly non-existing crowd (even desinterested). nevertheless
it was a good soundtrack for your personal head-movie again. relaxed and
inspiring.
the next day was back to normality again more or less,
we paid a short visit to cedrics exhibition at geneva of selfbuilt lampstands
out of garbage-stuff and chairs with skiers(??). eric was doing his karaoke-noise-ambient
and there were some bottles of wine that needed to be emptied and some
plates with bread, grapes and cheese (the usual french-part snack for vernissages
i guess!!!). at friday the highlight surely was going to the museeum of
arts brut. good and inspiring collection of art done by people with strange
social behaviour, psychotic problems, schizophrenic phase or generally
difficult state of mind. well, maybe everybody of us should open up a museeum?
after a pasta-party at the trashland we finally decided to go to winterthur
and the germans had to drive to freiburg and then leipzig the next day,
what they hopefully did (as far as i know....).
maybe some important things have been forgotten to say
and some unimportant thigs have been repeated tenthousand times again and
again. don't blame and don't even think to blame me for that!!!! yuk!!!
